Superficial thrombophlebitis

Phlebitis means inflammation of a vein. Thrombophlebitis is the term used when a venous thrombus cause inflammation of a vein. Superficial thrombophlebitis affects the veins of the skin, mostly the lower limbs but may affect the upper limb and pelvic veins.

Thrombophlebitis occurs repeatedly in normal veins is called migratory. May indicate a severe disease like cancer under a national body. When migratory thrombophlebitis and internal organ cancer is associated condition is called Trousseau's syndrome.

Superficial thrombophlebitis of the arm is usually caused by catheterization at this level. Thrombophlebitis frequently occurs in people with varicose veins. Even a minimal can cause varicose veins to become inflamed. Against deep vein thrombosis which rarely develop inflammatory phenomena, superficial thrombophlebitis involving an acute inflammatory reaction that causes accession thrombus and venous wall farm detaching it occurs.Against deep vein thrombosis, superficial veins that are not afforded the calf muscles to contract and break the thrombus. Superficial thrombophlebitis rarely determine why embolism.

Death caused by this pathological condition is rare, but can promote the development of deep vein thrombophlebitis and formation of pulmonary embole that migrate.
Superficial thrombophlebitis usually occurs in arms and legs but was described and the penis and breast, called Monde disease.
Are inflammatory, usually circumscribed and abacteriene, subcutaneous veins of the walls, accompanied by adherents clot formation. Deep vein thrombosis compared with their importance is small, they do not have a very embolizeaza almost never fatal, they tend to heal spontaneously, although occasionally may extend to deep veins may be septic (effusion), rather than let a exceptionally disabling sequelae. Incidence of superficial thrombophlebitis is not known, but occur more frequently in some situations, especially varicose veins, veins cateterizate after intravenous administration of irritants. Sometimes revealing the systemic diseases that have helped cause a channel appearance. The vein thrombosis without venous valves, leading to a slow venous circulation and venous pressure in chronic high limbs. Cause increased venous pressure onset postflebitic with chronic pain, swelling, hyperpigmentation, ulceration and increased risk of recurrent pulmonary embolism, thrombophlebitis.
